🌊 Van Loveren Calcrete Chardonnay – Pure, Mineral-Driven Elegance
This unwooded Chardonnay is a standout expression of the Robertson Valley’s unique calcrete-rich soils—chalky limestone deposits that lend the wine its signature oyster shell minerality, wet stone freshness, and a whisper of sea spray saltiness. Cold-fermented in stainless steel to preserve purity, it opens with a vibrant burst of lime, finishing with a clean, crystalline texture that’s both refreshing and refined.
With an alcohol content of 13.1%, it’s a food-friendly choice that pairs beautifully with salads, seafood, roast chicken, or grilled pork. The wine’s silvery-green hue and minimalist charm make it a favourite for lovers of elegant, terroir-driven whites.
🏞️ What is Calcrete?
“Calcrete” refers to the white limestone-rich soils found in Robertson and Bonnievale. These demanding soils force vines to dig deep, resulting in grapes with intense flavour and minerality. Only select estates—including Van Loveren—are part of the Calcrete Custodians, a registered group committed to showcasing Chardonnay in its purest form.
